How to Play Battle Royal Slot
Battle Royal is a colourful video slot, developed by Play’N Go. It has 5 reels and 20 paylines, with bets starting at 20p. The lead character is King Henry VIII, but you will see more of his six wives across the reels. There are Wilds, Scatters, random wins and bonus features to help you have a game more fruitful than any of the six marriages!
He’s a right smug individual, is Henry VIII. Although Battle Royal is a cartoon, it is a bit graphic with screams as the wives get beheaded in one of the features. This time, he’s not limiting the beheadings to two. It can happen to any of the wives and will bring some growing prizes. Sound-tracked to some regal music, you may find yourself enjoying the ridiculous acts of King Henry VIII.
Prepare for Battle
It is easy to get ready to play the Battle Royal slot. The paylines are fixed, so all you need to choose is how much you wish to bet per spin. You can set this between 20p and £100, depending on how much you are willing to stake.
Once you’re happy with that, hit the green spin button.
The wives we see here on the reels look very different from the ones in the history books, and so we’re going to refer to them by clothes colour and mood. You will need to match at least 3 of the same symbols on a payline to win.
An eyebrow-raising wife in yellow can pay out the highest value of up to 30 times your bet for a five-of-a-kind match. We wonder, is she worth more because she escaped him first, or did she outlive him?
The extremely smiley blonde wife in orange and the posing one in red are both of equal value. Match five of the same wives on a payline, and you could win up to 50 times your bet amount.
She’s stern-faced and wearing green to match her angry mood and can award you 40 times your bet for a five-of-a-kind match. The same goes for the smiling wife in purple.
A rather angelic wife in blue, holding a rabbit in her arms, will pay out up to 30 times your bet for the biggest match.
The lower-value icons in the Battle Royal slot machine are the card symbols. The blue spade, red heart, orange diamond and the green club can offer maximum wins between 1.5 times and 3 times your bet amount for matching 5 across the reels.
It would be rude not to invite King Henry VIII into the Battle Royal slot for a spin with all of his ex-wives at once. He is the Wild symbol and can either partially or fully cover any reel. Whichever positions he lands on, the symbol can be used to substitute for any other standard symbols to create winning paylines.
Furthermore, if you manage to land three or more Henry VIII wilds across the reels, you could also be in with a chance to win up to 30 times your bet amount.
Landing this grand symbol on the first and last reels together will trigger a feature. You must click on one of the shields to decide the fate of your feature.
You will either win Free Spins or the Long Live The King Feature.
Heads Will Roll
This Free Spins feature is Henry versus the wives. Before your spins begin, you can select which wife you think will keep her head and her role as Queen. If she remains in the end, you will win an extra prize.
After each spin, a guillotine will fall. If a wife is on that reel, she will get beheaded and become wild for the rest of the round — a silver lining for us.
The beheadings (and free spins) continue until one wife is left.
You then need to select a reel to behead the Queen, and if she loses her head, the Long Live The King feature will be triggered.
Long Live the King
A selection of chests will be scattered around a chamber, and you can choose one to select an instant prize.
If you find a key in a chest, you have the option to escape while you can and earn a multiplier or stay in the chamber and collect more prizes at your peril.
Be warned; if one of Henry’s ex-wives’ ghosts creeps out and haunts him, the feature is over.
Randomly at points throughout the game, any of the card suit symbols can transform into the same symbols. This means there will be more matching symbols on the reels and gives an extra opportunity to land some winning lines.
Dare to Spin with the King
One brilliant factor to point out is the quality of the game and the design within each of the characters’ costumes. These, as well as the hanging flags in the background, are fantastic touches. A little detail can add a lot to a game. Animation of the reels and features also make for great entertainment and smooth playing.
The Tudor king was a brute, but in this Battle Royal slot, he’s helping us out with our prize fund. It’s less of ‘divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived’ and more ‘beheaded them all – more than once’! Battle Royal is great fun and a very enjoyable game if you can see past the wives’ fate and focus on the prizes.
